Da McEwans 38 v 35 Wastside

Da McEwans 38 v 35 Wastside

Within the first few minutes of the match, it was clear that it was going to be a close one. The Wastside mid court of Julie Crossan (C) and Ashley Hunter (WA) worked well getting the ball to their shooters. This was key to them having a slight advantage at the end of the quarter with a score of 9-8.

The play was more settled in the second quarter. Wastside’s defence of Sarah Sandison (GD) and Bronwyn Walterson (GK) we’re working well together, however, Da McEwans shooters Brenna Irvine (GS) and Kirsty Porter (GA) were dominant in the circle by securing vital rebounds and allowing another shot on goal. This gave them a lead of 16-13 at half time.

The start of the third quarter was scrappy from both teams with too many loose balls. Da McEwans mid court of Nicola Polson (C) and Catherine Irvine (WA) worked hard to slow down the play and keep the game under control, however, the Wastside shooters Mhari Drozdowska (GA) and Erin Morrison (GS) were winning the battles in the circle, allowing them to pull back the disadvantage they had at half time and draw level at 25 all going into the last quarter.

Wastside made a few changes in the last quarter with Shona Hunter (C) coming on after a break in the third quarter. This allowed them to work the ball up the court more effectively than their opposition. McEwans defence of Faye Anderson (WD), Ellie Sutherland (GD) and Anne Irvine (GK) were solid, making it hard for Wastside to capitalise on their great play all over the court. The difference in the end was down to vital interceptions in the Wastside shooting circle by Da McEwans defence, which earned them a close victory of 38-35, after a great game of netball from both sides. Players of the match were awarded to Kirsty Porter for Da McEwans and Erin Morrison for Wastside.
