KINETICS 29 V WHALSAY 29

Whalsay won the toss and took the first centre pass. Kinetics defenders Andrea Ross and Louise Kelly were marking tight and gained an interception. Kinetics got the ball as far as their shooting circle but were penalised for a held ball. Whalsay converted this ball, with another soon after to gain a two goal lead. Kinetics were able to even the score with two quick goals from Sarah Nicol.

For a period the play was goal for goal but robust defending from Natalie Constable and Shelley Anderson led to some great interceptions. Whalsay were able to capitalise and get a two goal lead. Nicol pulled one back before the end of the quarter to bring the score to 7-6 in Whalsay’s favour.

Kinetics brought on new players Kristi Grant at Centre and Karis Georgeson in attack. This changed the pace of play. An early interception in the Whalsay circle saw Kinetics pass the ball up the court to score the first goal, to make the game even. Karis Leask came on as shooter for Whalsay and made no mistake sinking two goals in quick succession. Ross and Kelly, along with Ingrid Nicol continued to make some fantastic interceptions but some mistakes from Kinetics in the mid court meant they were not able to use this to their advantage.

In the third quarter, Carina McLatchie at Wing Attack made some great passes into the Kinetics shooters. Vaila Hough at shooter was having a great quarter with some nice movement and accurate shooting from near and far. The fitness and speed of Whalsay’s Catherine Williamson at Centre kept her team in the game and she was instrumental in leading numerous attacks for her team. Kinetics edged ahead 24-22.

In the final quarter Whalsay came out the more determined side. Karis Leask continued her great shooting form and Whalsay scored 4 goals without a reply from Kinetics.  A great interception from Andrea Ross was converted by Liza Henderson who had moved into the Goal Attack position for Kinetics. Henderson got herself into space again and brought the score level. Whalsay made a few changes at this point which worked in their favour and pulled ahead by two. Kinetics fought back and young Cally Thomson showed great determination at WD. Some frantic play followed and a crucial interception by Kinetics was worked up the court. A contact from a Whalsay defender led to a free shot in the final seconds of the game. Nicol held her nerve to score, meaning that the game was drawn at 29-29.
