Loungers 28 V 21 DSBC Kiwis
The 1st quarter started with a steal from Loungers. DSBC Kiwis took back possession, then Loungers managed to fight back to score the first goal. Tight marking from Kiwis defence didn’t make it easy for Loungers, who were forced to make lots of passes around the circle before getting the ball into the shooters. Kiwis took some time to score, but once they did, the goals started to flow. The quarter ended 7-4 to Loungers.
The 2nd quarter started evenly, with both teams making some excellent interceptions in the defensive circle. The 1st goal was scored by Kiwis almost 2 minutes into the quarter with lovely shooting by Rhianne Colvin. Loungers continued to work hard to get the ball into their shooting circle, being hampered by great teamwork from Maisie Unsworth and Kim Johnson. Loungers defence were similarly making some great interceptions, with rebounds being taken by GK Louise Moar linking well with players up the court. The quarter ended 11-8 to Loungers.
End to end play to start the 3rd quarter. Loungers started to pull ahead slightly, with super shooting from Ava Johnston and Kaitlin Leslie. A great interception from Kiwis Emma Niven saw them disrupt the Loungers flow. Both teams were strongly fighting for every ball, with nothing going unchallenged. The quarter ended 22-15 to Loungers.
The last quarter started with a lovely interception from Kiwis Kim Johnson in the middle third, which was quickly turned into a goal. Lovely support up the court from Diane Thomson of Loungers. Both teams worked hard to gain interceptions. Kiwis slowly managed to narrow the gap in goals, with some lovely movement and shots from Libby Fox. However, Loungers Claire Johnson was quick to take any loose balls and fire them up the court. The game ended 28-21 to Loungers.
