McEwans 36 v 42 Challengers
Challengers started the brightest in the Whalsay derby, with shooters Valerie Sales and Danielle Johnson firing in goals from all over the circle to give them a 10-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Da McEwans settled more in the second quarter, with Jenny Jamieson and Nicola Polson working hard in mid Court to get the ball into shooters Joanne Stewart and Kirsty Porter. Challengers continued to link up well though through Evie Williamson, Sarah Groat and Carla Fraser, ensuring they still led 20-14 at half time.
The third quarter remained fast paced as Da McEwans fought to narrow the gap but Maria Sales and Amy Pearson were working hard in the Challengers defence, and they led 29-23 going into the last quarter.
Challengers were dealt a blow in the last quarter when Evie Williamson had to leave the court injured, reducing them to 6 players. Da McEwans tried to capitalise on having the extra player on court but the Challengers were determined not to lose and went on to win 42-36. Players of the match were Nicola Polson for Da McEwans and Valerie Sales for Challengers.
