McEwans 37 V 27 Wastside
Both teams struggled to take control of the game, which made the play quick and scrappy. McEwans were unable to find the net, which allowed Wastside defence of Brownyn Walterson and Shona Hunter to pile on the pressure and turn over the ball. Unfortunately, they were unable to capitalise on this so Wastside were trailing after the first quarter 7-5.
Wastside started the second quarter strong and were taking advantage of the silly mistakes being made by McEwans. Kirsten Smith and Julie Crossan linked up well which helped the ball flow up the court. Mhari Drozdowska and Erin Morrison were dominant in the circle which allowed Wastside to pull ahead 14-1 2 at half time.
McEwans were determined to improve on their performance in the second half. Wastside made this difficult in the midcourt. The McEwans defence of Ellie Sutherland and Isla Thomson were solid, turning over numerous balls and helping in attack. This allowed McEwans to pull ahead by 1 ending the quarter 23-22.
The high level of play continued into the last quarter with good battles taking place all over the court. Jenny Jamieson for McEwans worked tirelessly throughout and the difference in the end was down to the shooting performance of Mairi Polson and Kirsty Porter, who were barely missing a shot. This helped secure a win of 37-27 to Da McEwans. Players of the match were awarded to Jenny Jamieson for McEwans and Bronwyn Walterson for Wastside. Many thanks to Chloe Howarth and Nala Williamson for umpiring.
