McEwans 43 V 23 Mishaps
Both teams took a while to settle into the first quarter, particularly McEwans who struggled to get their first goal. This was partly due to their own passing errors but the Mishaps defence of Elaine Burgess and Vicky Wiseman made it difficult for their shooters to settle into the game. McEwans were able to claw it back with a couple of late goals seeing the quarter end 7-6 to Mishaps.
McEwans were determined to make up for their poor play, which was evident from the first centre pass of the quarter as they were able to score quickly. Despite the best efforts of Sarah Williamson & Leah Henry in the midcourt, Mishaps were unable to stop the McEwans attack up court. McEwans shooters Mairi Polson and Kirsty Porter were rarely missing which meant they were able to open up a healthy lead of 20-10 going into half time.
Mishaps made some changes in defence by putting Vicky Wiseman back in the circle, which certainly made it more difficult for the McEwans shooters. This allowed them to turn over a few balls and transition swiftly up the court to their shooters Alicia Hunter & Molly Farmer, who were both having a good game. However, this was not enough to stop the McEwans from pulling ahead further with the scores being 31-16 at the whistle.
The final quarter saw some of the teams’ best play, particularly from Isla Thomson and Ellie Sutherland of McEwans. They worked tirelessly all match in defence, making it really hard for the Mishaps shooters to get free. They continued to do so in the final quarter and turned over numerous balls, which Faye Anderson & Jenny Jamieson helped to get up court to their shooters, who rarely missed. McEwans were able to see out the game with the final score being 43-23. Players of the match were awarded to Vicky Wiseman of Mishaps and to both Kirsty Porter and Isla Thomson of McEwans. Huge thanks to Ashely Symington and Chloe Howarth for umpiring.
