Ness 39 V 16 Kinetics
The final game of the night at Clickimin saw Ness and Kinetics play against each other in the pre-christmas league. Unfortunately, after only 30 seconds of play, Carina McLatchie, Kinetics WA, had to go off injured from a nasty twist to the ankle and would remain off for the duration of the game. Ness took full advantage of the slightly shaken opposition, with fast attacking play converted to goals each time by their brilliant shooters. Kinetics Liza Henderson and Louise Malcolmson fought back with determined play, linking well into their circle. Ness continued to play fast and strong though, with this first quarter ending 11-4 in their favour.
The second quarter saw Kinetics up their pace to match Ness, evidenced in their mid-court attack helping them to score the first 2 goals of the quarter. This determination continued, with great defence and interceptions from their GD Ella Johnson. However, Ness shooters Estella Smith and Sarah Kissick were on form, hardly missing a shot, which meant that, although Kinetics closed the gap in this quarter, Ness still led 19-10.
Ness then found their form in the third quarter, spurred on by the fact Kinetics were closing in on their lead. In particular, Ness defence Ailish Goodlad and Ruth Christie were working well together to cover the circle, causing Kinetics shooters to have to try long range shots. This, along with some great interceptions by Ness Molly Fraser, meant that they increased their lead to 29-12.
The final quarter saw Kinetics start very strongly, and like the second quarter scored the first 2 goals, determined to claw back some points and decrease Ness’ lead. Both teams seemed to become quite flustered, leading to fast, scrappy play. Due to this, interceptions from both sides increased significantly with only 6 goals being scored in the first 8 minutes. With only 4 minutes left of the game, Ness settled, and with some exceptional shooting and great movement by Ness shooters, the game ended 39-16, with Ness increasing their lead further. Players of the match were Sarah Kissick for Ness and Ella Johnson for Kinetics.
