Scallywags 15 v Unst 36

Scallywags 15 v Unst 36

With both teams tied at the top, this was going to be a well fought game to decide who was going to take the title of Division 2.  Unst won the toss and this saw them take the first centre of the game which saw them open the scoring.  Unst settled quickly which saw them go on to score 4 goals in a row, making Scallywags Ami Maddison GD and Ella Robertson GK work really hard to capitalise on any mistakes to get the ball moving back up court.  Unst were defending really tightly, which saw Scallywags working hard to get the ball moving up court into their shooters of Anne-Marie Robinson GS and Alana Smith GA who were managing to convert their shots into goals but Unst’s Ailidh Risk GK and Martha Moar GD was not making it easy for them.  This saw the quarter end 11-4 to Unst.

Unst continued their strong play from the first quarter which saw accurate shooting from Erin Spence GA who was not missing a single goal.  Scallywags were having to work hard to get the ball up to their shooters of Robinson and Smith, who were being tightly marked by Unst’s defence duo of Risk and Moar.  Ami Maddison C and Anne Leask WA were providing great support around the attacking circle for Robinson and Smith who were having to work hard to find the space to convert their shots into goals.  Both teams were fighting hard in this quarter but with the accurate shooting from Unst’s Spence, they finished this quarter 20-7.

The third quarter saw Scallywags open the scoring with their first goal from their centre pass.  Unst continued their strong play in this quarter which saw Scallywags fighting hard for every pass or interception.  Scallywags defence of Maddison and Robertson were working well together putting pressure on Unst’s shooters making them work hard to convert their shots into goals but Spence was not missing a single shot for Unst and this saw them go into the final quarter 27-10.

Scallywags knew they had a lot to do to close the gap in the scoring and what a final quarter this proved to be.  Both teams came out fighting and this saw great end to end play with accurate shooting from both sides.  Play was a bit frantic at times but Scallywags never gave up and were working hard to keep the pressure on Unst but it not enough to close the gap.  Unst continued their dominant play throughout the game and this saw them go on to win the match 36-15. Players of the match were awarded to Scallywags Anne Leask and Unst Martha Moar.
