Scallywags 35 – Ness Hotshots 22

Ness Hotshots won the toss and opted to take the first centre of the game, which saw them get their first 2 goals within the first minute of play before Scallywags got their first goal.  Play was a bit unsettled to start with and this resulted in quite a few scrappy passes and missed interceptions.  Once both teams started to settle, this saw Scallywags defence of Marie Moar GK and Rhea-May Isbister GD work hard to keep Ness Hotshots shooters of Megan Nicolson GA and Rachel Young GS from converting their shots into goals but they were not missing anything.  At the other end, Scallywags shooters, Anne-Marie Robinson GA and Eden Wadley GS were also on form and rarely missing their shots despite being closely marked by Ness Hotshots Isobel Beswick GD and Kayleigh Young GK.  The quarter ended 8-7 to Scallywags.

The second quarter saw Scallywags Judy Hamer come on as GK for Marie Moar.  Scallywags were much more settled in this quarter, with Rowan Nicolson C and Anne Leask WA working well together to get the ball up to their shooters of Robinson and Wadley, who were having to work harder in their attacking circle to find space to convert their shots into goals as Ness Hotshots defence of Beswick and Young were not making it easy for them.  Ness Hotshots C Molly Nicolson was linking up well with Jasmine Woodside WA to get their passes into Nicolson and Young who were also having to find space to convert their shots into goals as Scallywags defence of Hamer and Isbister were marking them very tightly.  Scallywags just managed to keep their lead and the quarter ended 17-15.

Scallywags made a further change which saw Bethany Moar come on as WA for Anne Leask.  With play underway, Ness Hotshots started strong, scoring 2 goals to bring the score to 17-17.  Scallywags were a bit rattled by this and knew they had to step up a gear in this quarter if they were to keep their lead.  Both teams were fighting hard and this saw a very competitive game being played in this quarter, with great attacking and defending from both sides.  It was the accurate shooting from Scallywags Robinson and Wadley, that saw the home side pull ahead and the quarter ended 26-19 to them.

With the final quarter underway, Ness Hotshots knew they had a lot of work to do to close the gap in the scoring.  Scallywags continued their play from the previous quarter, with Nicolson C and Leask WA linking up well and feeding their passes into their shooters who were not missing their shots making Ness Hotshots defence of Beswick GD and Jamieson GK work hard to keep them from scoring.  Ness Hotshots never gave up and kept fighting hard for every pass or rebound but it was Scallywags who dominated the play and they pulled ahead to win the match 35-22. Players of the match were awarded to Scallywags Rowan Nicolson and Ness Hotshots Megan Nicolson.
