SCALLYWAGS 41 NESS HOTSHOTS 30

SCALLYWAGS 41 NESS HOTSHOTS 30

The game started with Scallywags winning the toss and taking the first centre, which saw them open the scoring with a quick goal.  As Ness Hot Shots took the next centre, a good interception from Scallywags saw them go 2-0 up.  Play was fairly even from both teams with Ness Hot Shots keeping Scallywag on their toes with their quick pace and accurate passing.  As play progresses, Ness Hot Shots WD Rebecca Miller sustained an injury which resulted in her having to be replaced by Sophie Morris and saw Gail Nicolson come on into GS.  Both teams took a little while to settle after this but with the accurate shooting of Scallywags Devine and Robinson they finished this quarter 11-9.

During the break, Ness Hot Shots made some changes within their line up and saw them start the second quarter with a centre pass from Sophie Morris.  Morris C was linking up well with Ruth Morris WA to find their shooters of Kira Eldridge and Gail Nicolson who were having to work hard to find spaces in their circle as Scallywags defence of Heidi Eriksen and Meg Laurenson were marking closely.  Both teams were making full use of the whole court, which saw some great end to end play but at times it was a bit frantic and scrappy.  As the half time whistle went, Scallywags went into the third quarter leading 22-16.

The third quarter started with Rowan Nicolson taking the centre pass for Scallywags and with quick accurate passing found Robinson GS who converted the pass into a goal for the home side.  Scallywags were on form in this quarter and their shooters of Robinson and Devine were rarely missing any of their shots making Ness Hot Shots defence of Isabel Beswick and Melody Goodlad work hard to keep them from scoring.  Ness Hot Shots worked really hard in this quarter despite only having 6 players to keep up with Scallywags but it was the accurate shooting from Robinson and Devine that saw them go into the final quarter 36-21.

As the last quarter got underway, Ness Hot Shots were now back up to 7 players and Scallywags knew they could not afford to make any mistakes.  This saw great play from Ness Hot Shots especially their GA Kira Eldridge who was on form and rarely missing her shots despite being marked closely by Scallywags GD Eriksen.  At the other end Scallywags Robinson and Devine were making good movement in their attacking circle with great support from Nicolson and Johnston and again were not missing any of their shots.  At times Scallywags passing was quite careless and Ness Hot Shots were soon to capitalise on this but it was just not enough to close the gap in the scoring from the third quarter and Scallywags went on to win the match 41-30.

Players of the match were awarded to Scallywags Anne-Marie Robinson and Melody Goodlad for Ness Hot Shots.
