Scallywags 49 – Hotfooters 22

With both teams eager to get the game underway, Hotfooters won the first centre and this saw them open the scoring of the game.  Scallywags soon evened the score with a goal from their next centre.  As both teams were quick to settle, this saw Scallywags WD Chloe McLeod making some great interceptions which were then being fed back up court to their shooters, Anne-Marie Robinson GA and Chrissie Arthur GS who were not missing anything in the circle despite being closely marked by Hotfooters Kirsten Grant GK and Ellie Bisset GD.  The quarter ended 10-7 to Scallywags.

Scallywags started the second quarter very strong, scoring the first 4 goals in a row.  Play was quite fast and frantic at times with some great tips from Scallywags Rhea-May Isbister GD and McLeod GD who were defending well.  Scallywags shooters of Robinson and Arthur were working well together in their attacking circle, making space for each other to convert their shots into goals.  At the other end, Hotfooters Shaina Douglas was also converting her shots into goals but it was Scallywags who dominated and the quarter ended 21-11 to them.

The third quarter saw Scallywags continue their strong play from the previous quarter scoring 5 goals in a row before Hotfooters opened their scoring.  Hotfooters showed determination throughout this quarter but Scallywags defence Judy Hamer and Isbister were making it hard for their shooters to convert their shots into goals.  Scallywags Rowan Nicolson C and Anne Leask WA were linking well together in mid-court, providing great support for their shooters around the circle.  It was the accurate shooting from Scallywags which saw them go into the last quarter leading 36-16.

The final quarter saw both teams fighting for every ball and Hotfooters were quick to score 2 goals in a row before Scallywags replied.  With great play from both teams, Scallywags were once again to dominate play which saw great feeds into their attacking circle to their shooters who were not missing.  Hotfooters never gave up and fought hard but it was Scallywags who went on to win the match 49-22. Players of the match were Rowan Nicolson for Scallywags and Shaina Douglas for Hotfooters.
