Scallywags 52 v Da McEwans 30
Scallywags won the toss and this saw them take the first centre pass of the game. With strong, fast play from Scallywags they gained 4 goals in a row before McEwans found the net with their first goal. McEwans C, Jenny Jamieson was working really hard in mid-court to get the ball up to their shooters who were being marked tightly by Scallywags defence of Ami Maddison GD and Ella Robertson GK. With accurate shooting from both teams, it was Scallywags who took the first quarter with a three goal lead at 10-7.
McEwans started the second quarter very strongly and opened the scoring with an accurate shot from Kirsty Porter (GA). Scallywags were having to work really hard to get their passes up court into their shooters of Anja Kurtz GA and Alana Smith GS, who were being closely marked by McEwans Ellie Sutherland GD and Faye Anderson GK. Play was frantic at times as McEwans were fighting hard to narrow the gap in the score but Scallywags managed to maintain their lead and saw the quarter end 21-15 in their favour.
The third quarter saw a strong start from Scallywags with Rowan Nicolson C and Anne Leask WA providing great support around the circle for their shooters of Robinson GS and Kurtz GA who were rarely missing the net. McEwans defence of Sutherland and Anderson were ready to capitalise on any small mistakes to get the ball moving back up court to their shooters. Both teams were working hard and this saw great end to end play but it was Scallywags who pulled ahead and finished the quarter 37-23.
With the final quarter underway, both teams came out fighting and this saw Scallywags net four goals in a row before McEwans responded with 4 in a row also which caught Scallywags off guard. As play progressed, Scallywags Nicolson and Leask were once again providing great support for their shooters Kurtz and Smith who were both on form and converting all their shots into goals. McEwans never gave up and fought to the end with some great interceptions that saw them slow down Scallywags attack but it wasn’t enough close the gap in the score and the game finished 52-30 to Scallywags. Players of the match were awarded to Scallywags Anja Kurtz and Da McEwans Kirsty Porter.
