Unst 20 v 21 Kinetics

Kinetics won the toss and made the most of it, taking an early lead thanks to some great play by Kinetics shooters, Karis Georgeson and Maisie Ramsay. Meanwhile their defenders Shannon Stevenson and Rozanne Jamieson were working hard at the other end to turn around any missed chances by Unst and Kinetics took the first 4 goals. Unst didn’t let their heads go down and some excellent linking up between Ashley Symington and Karis Burns in the Unst mid-court saw Erin Spence get her chance to shoot and she took her chances, clawing back 4 goals to make the score even. Both teams continued to fight for and defend every ball leading to lots of changes of possession and the first quarter ending 6-6.

Both teams came out fighting in the second quarter with Unst keeping it the same but some changes for Kinetics. Louise Malcolmson and Ella Johnson working just as hard as Stevenson and Jamieson had been in the defensive circle. With Kristie Grant on every ball at C and Georgeson and Ramsay making the most of their chances Kinetics began to draw ahead. Unst kept fighting, Linda Thomson and Lisa Johnson providing a solid defence made some vital interceptions which were turned into goals by Erin Spence and Marie Leask, leading to Unst just taking the second quarter 11-10

Both teams continued fighting, with some great play up the court and the game was goal for goal. Claire Laurenson brought on some new energy for Unst at WD. Kinetics’ Lucy Thomson coming on at GS and Ramsay moving out to GA kept the Unst defenders on their toes but Thomson and Johnson were up to the challenge. At the other end of the court Ciara Kelly kept up Louise’s energy and made Spence work hard with Ella Johnson turning several balls around in the circle. Kinetics pulled ahead but Unst pulled back and the third quarter finished 16-16.

There was all to play for coming into the final quarter, the play was fast and furious, and it was over 2 minutes before the first goal of the quarter was scored. Kerry Laurenson came on at GS for Unst, working well with Spence in the circle but Kinetics were on every ball. Interception after interception saw many changes in possession but Kinetics settled first, Ramsay and Thomson kept their cool and managed to score 4 in a row taking a convincing lead. Unst kept their heads up and Ailidh Risk and Thomson made Kinetics work for every pass into the circle and some vital interceptions saw Unst get their own run of goals but they were 1 short and Kinetics took the last quarter with the final score 20-21. Players of the match were Maisie Ramsay for Kinetics and Karis Burns for Unst.
