Unst 23 v Yell 31

The North Isles derby match is always a hotly contested affair with both sides hoping to come out on top. It was Unst who won the toss and opted to take the first centre pass. The first quarter was played at a remarkably calm and controlled pace with the scoring going with the centre pass. The first quarter ended 6-6.

In the second quarter both teams settled into the match and we began to see some competitive netball. Young Irena Polson at centre for Unst was doing a great job at working the ball up the court however great defensive play from the Yell lasses in the circle were making things difficult for the Unst shooters. Excellent interceptions from Lesley Strachan and Kerry Nicolson gave Yell the opportunity to begin to build a lead through super shooting from Freya Hannay and Stephanie Keith. The 2nd quarter ended 14-11 to Yell.

After half time, Unst made some changes to bring on some fresh legs. The Unst shooters were working hard, with Marie Robertson and Chelsea Jamieson converting the goals when given the opportunity. The match continued in a competitive manner with every ball being. contested,Yell however, continued to push ahead with the third quarter ending in their favour 22-16.

The final quarter saw both teams giving it their all with Unst not ready to give up on the match. Strong play from Yell through their centre third and feeding into the circle meant the game was being played a fast pace. Amber Morrison and Denise MacBeath linking well to find their shooters and Yell finished the match with their strongest quarter. An excellent team performance from Yell ensured they came out victors, 31-23. Players of the Match were Denise MacBeath for Yell and Irena Polson for Unst.
