Unst 36 V 22 Scallywags
Unst took the first centre pass and both teams took time to settle into the game with end to end play until Scallywags secured the first goal. Things looked good for Scallywags with brilliant support play from their WA Ann Leask. However, interceptions from Unst’s Ashley Symington turned around play, allowing Unst to take the lead with Marie Leask’s accurate shooting for the Isles team. The first quarter ended 8-3 to Unst.
Scallywags Ami Madison GD worked hard in the second quarter making it difficult for Unst in their shooting circle. Leask added pressure on Scallywags by defending up the line with help from Alana Johnson WA. This allowed Symington to continue to intercept and turn around play, feeding the ball to Unst’s GA Erin Spence, who was quick on her feet and increased Unst’s lead. Jenna Moar GA didn’t give up, but Scallywags were up against a tough Unst defence with Linda Thomson GD and Lisa Johnson GK showing their experience in the circle. The score was 17-9 to Unst at half time.
The third quarter both teams make changes with Alana Johnson moving into GS for Unst and Scallywag Ami Maddison changed to GA. Unst had their highest scoring quarter with first time shooting pairing of Spence and Johnson. Jenna Moar moved to WA, calmly working to feed the ball into Ann Marie Robinson GS. Rhea Newell moved into GD for Scallywags and showed promise until she was forced to leave the court with injury. This saw Scallywags Marie Moar come on as GK and Ella Robertson step up to GD, but Scallywags were unable to match Unst and the quarter ended 28-15.
In the last quarter Ami Maddison GA was leading play for Scallywags and along with supportive play from Jenna WA and Ann Leask C. Scallywags dug deep to hold their own forcing Unst’s defence to step up their game. Unst’s Linda Thomson GD played tirelessly and their attack remained consistent.
This allowed Unst to keep their lead and finish the game 36-22. Player of the match was awarded to Unst’s Marie Leask and Scallywag’s Jenna Moar.
