Unst 46 V 16 Mishaps
Unst won the toss and made the most of it, taking an early lead thanks to some great play by Ashley Symington at Centre, helping the ball find Unst shooters Erin Spence and Marie Leask who made the most of their chances. Mishaps kept fighting and began to settle with Elaine Gair and Brooke Williamson making some vital interceptions which were turned into goals by shooters Morgan Henderson and Kayleigh Dade but in the final few minutes of the quarter, Unst found their flow and some fantastic team play saw them pull ahead and take the first quarter 12-5.
Mishaps had some ground to make up coming into the second quarter but Leah Henry was on every ball and made Unst’s mid-court work, hard. She capitalisied on every mistake and pushed the ball up to Mishap’s shooters but Unst’s Martha Moar and Ailidh Risk were a solid unit in defence and made Henderson and Dade work hard. Unst’s rapid play and Spence’s accurate shooting saw them increase their lead further and the second quarter ended 23-7.
Mishaps continued fighting, with some great play up the court, Henry and Kelsey Robb keeping their rhythm and supporting Mishaps defence who were working tirelessly in the circle but Unst weren’t relinquishing their grip on the game. Well placed balls into the circle from Symington and Kerry Laurenson into shooters Spence and Leask saw them score several goals in succession and widen the gap further, the third quarter ending 34-15.
Despite Unst’s lead Mishaps kept their heads up, making some changes coming into the final quarter Carly Cheyne coming in at GS and scoring from her first touch of the ball. Both teams got bit frantic and the ball was changing possession but Unst got a few goals in quick succession and pulled ahead further winning the game 46-16. Players of the match were Leah Henry for Mishaps and Erin Spence for Unst.
