Wastside 16 v Whalsay 57

The game started evenly, with good passing play from both sides. Whalsay began to edge ahead with Debbie Irvine (GA) and Louise Johnson (GS) rarely missing a shot inside the circle, the quarter ending 14-3 in Whalsay’s favour.

In the second quarter, Whalsay switched around some of their players. Karis Leask showed versatility, moving from WD to GD in this quarter (and later in the game GA) working well with Natalie Constable picking up any rebounds. Lisa Anderson switched with Catherine Williamson from WA to centre. The Whalsay team settled well with the changes though and despite Wastside defenders, Susan Morrison GK, Natasha Tulloch GD and Bronwyn Walterson WD, working tirelessly, the Wastside team were unable to capitalise on their chances. Whalsay began to increase their margin by 26-7.

The third quarter saw Whalsay add to their tally, gaining confidence in their play and increasing their lead. Wastside did not give up, continuing to defend well and attempting to bring play back, but were unable to convert this into goals. The quarter ended 46-11.

In the final quarter Wastside rallied. Aimee Keith switched with Julie Crossan from Centre to WA. The Keith sisters, Aimee and Julie (Odie) GA were linking well and creating more chances in the circle, along with Isla Moffat playing GS. At the other end, Whalsay’s shooters continued to hit the target around the circle but play was more evenly matched. The game ended 57-16. Players of the Match were Debbie Irvine for Whalsay and Bronwyn Walterson for Wastside.
