Wastside 19 V 29 Scallywags

Wastside won the toss and took the first centre which was very quickly converted to a goal by (GS) Erin Morrison. Both teams took their time to find their feet but Scallywags (C) Rowan Nicolson and (WA) Anne Leask was feeding good passes into shooters and their defenders worked tirelessly to prevent any scoring action from Wastside. Wastside fought hard with excellent defending from (GD) Hannah Polson, Sarah Sandison (GK) and Mairi Williamson (WD). Despite Wastside best efforts to narrow the lead, Scallywags dominance led them to secure a 3-10 win in the first quarter.  

The second quarter commenced and both teams felt it was all to play for. Mhari Drozdowska (GA) and Morrison at (GS) for Wastside continued to fight for every ball but the defence of Scallywags applied the pressure.  Excellent shooting from Alana Smith (GA) and Eden Wadley (GS) for Scallywags shone through securing them a convincing 4-16 lead.  

With a few changes for both teams, the third quarter saw Scallywags extend their lead with great linking up and down the court by all players. Wastside’s Sandison and Polson continued to put pressure on Scallywags shooters and due to both teams starting to tire, led to forced mistakes. (C) Erica Mikolajczak and (WA) Shona Hunter was feeding passes into Drozdowska and Morrison effortlessly which increased the score to 9-23. 

Both teams knew it was all to play for in the fourth quarter, they both worked incredibly hard to close the gap in the score. Morrison and Drozdowska worked tirelessly in the circle and secured a whole host of goals. Scallywags fought hard throughout the quarter and despite Wastside’s best efforts to narrow the gap the game ended 19-29 to Scallywags. Players of the match were Hannah Polson for Wastside and Alana Smith for Scallywags.
