Wastside 27 vs McEwans 37

Wastside met McEwans again this season for another closely contested match. McEwans were first to score with Mairi Polson playing GS and Brenna Irvine GA in this quarter. Wastside were quick to reply though, with good linking play coming from Courtney Young (WA) into shooters Mhari Drowzdowka (GA) and Erin Morrison (GS). End to end play followed but Bronwyn Walterson (GD), Shona Hunter (WD) and Ashley Hunter (GK) were defending well for Wastside, taking advantage of any rebounds. The quarter ended 6-2 in Wastside’s favour.

Wastside maintained their lead in the second quarter, Ruby Leask coming on as WA and playing well. Wastside’s defenders continued to make it difficult for McEwans, catching any rebounds, helping to build on their lead by a few goals. The quarter ending 16-10.

The third quarter saw McEwans come out fighting though. Centre Jenny Jamieson and WA Nicola Polson were connecting well, feeding the ball quickly into their circle. Kirsty Porter now playing GA and Brenna Irvine at GS were shooting well and gaining confidence. McEwans began to close the gap and were leading by one goal at the end of the quarter. 22-23.

Wastside made some changes with Ashley Hunter switching to centre and Ruby Leask changing to GK. Both young players gave a good account of themselves. McEwans were determined though, defending tightly and shooters Kirsty Porter and Brenna Irvine were making sure they capitalised on every shot. The game was hard fought until the end, Wastside never giving up but it was McEwans who came away with the win. 32-27.
