Wastside 32 V 5 Dutch Courage

Wastside took the first centre and settled quickly into the match. Erin Burgess showed versatility in a new role as goal shooter and combined well with Mhari Drozdowska, as goal attack, to gain an early lead. Dutch Courage centre, Carla Johnson, was working hard, showing pace and linking well with WA Anja Leslie. However, Wastside defenders Sarah Sandison GK and Hannah Burgess GD were also working tirelessly, intercepting play and making it difficult for Dutch Courage. The first quarter ended 9-1 in Wastside’s favour. 

Going into the second quarter, Leonie Clark GK and Laura Sinclair GD were defending tightly for Dutch Courage, making the Wastside shooters work in and around the circle. Ashley Hunter had come on at WA, playing her first game for Wastside, and showed she could be a real asset to the team. Centre, Carla Johnson, was also putting in a good shift for Dutch Courage. Wastside were able to build on their lead though, 15-1. 

In the third quarter, Bronwyn Walterson came on as centre for Wastside. Hunter sisters, Ashley and Shona as WA and WD were connecting well. Dutch Courage swapped Anja Leslie for centre, showing her adaptability as a player. Play that followed moved from end to end but Wastside were able to build on their lead with a 22-3 advantage. 

In the final quarter, Dutch Courage continued to fight hard but Wastside defenders were also strong, Bronwyn Walterson switching on as GD and Mairi Williamson at GK. Shona Hunter moved to centre for Wastside with Carla Johnson coming back on as her opposition. Both teams showing they have some talented young players in their squads with real potential. Dutch Courage never gave up but Wastside remained composed and the match finished 32-5. Players of the match were Shona Hunter from Wastside and Carla Johnson for Dutch Courage.
