The match began evenly with both teams settling quickly. The ball moved swiftly from one end of the court to the other with Whalsay shooters Debbie Smith and Lara Kay, and Loungers shooters Stella Oldbury and Claire Johnston rarely missing a shot. Loungers were 2 goals ahead, 6-8 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw both teams make unforced errors but Whalsay managed to pull ahead. Lianne Jamieson was getting the ball to Smith at the edge of the circle who did not miss a shot. At the end of the quarter the score was 16-12 in Whalsay’s favour. Loungers settled their play in the third quarter with good team linking between Vicki Smith and Hazel Johnson. Although Loungers had to work hard to get the ball past Whalsay’s defence duo of Natalie Constable and Shelley Sandison, they managed to close the gap to 22-20. The final quarter saw both teams fighting hard to take a good lead. Loungers upped the pressure in defence, which made Whalsay struggle to convert any good play into goals.
