It took a moment for both teams to settle into the game with scrappy play and unforced errors but Whalsay managed to pull ahead. Shelley Anderson and Karis Leask kept tight on their players and picked up any loose balls for Whalsay and at the end of the quarter, the score was 9-6 in Whalsay’s favour.
Whalsay settled in the second quarter with good linking play between Catherine Williamson and Louise Johnson. Although Whalsay had to work hard to get the ball past Ailish Parham and Ruth Christie, they managed to increase their lead to 22-12, with excellent shooting from Debbie Irvine.
The third quarter saw both teams determined and fighting for a win. Ness made some changes that allowed them to close the gap. The ball moved swiftly from one end of the court to the other with Estella Smith and Tahlia Leslie rarely missing a shot. At the end of the quarter the score was 32-23.
The final quarter continued with end-to-end play. Ailish Parham, who was now playing centre, made some good passes into the shooting circle. Christie and Goodlad continued to work hard in defence for Ness but Whalsay continued to play well to keep their lead. Players of the match were Catherine Williamson for Whalsay and Estella Smith for Ness.
