Yell 20 V 45 AHS
AHS won the toss and took first centre. AHS demonstrated their very strong attack and produced goal after goal. Sarra McDougal (AHS WD) made some excellent interceptions to keep the pressure on Yell. Lesley Strachan (Yell GD) intercepted many passes which made the AHS attack work hard to keep the goals coming, ending the first quarter 3-12 to AHS.
The second quarter started with high energy from the AHS girls, it was clear they were keen to keep their lead. Strachan continued with the interceptions to keep AHS attack fighting. Some fluent set plays by AHS meant they kept producing the goals, Cara Montgomery (AHS WA), kept the mid court strong and prevented Yell from getting some well needed goals. This quarter ended 6-23 to AHS.
The third quarter was no different and AHS continued to demonstrate their dominance on the court. Sadie Fox (AHS GA) was moved from defence to attack and reinforced her ability to play well both as a defending and attacking player. Despite Yells determination AHS continued to make goal after goal. Yell’s young WA Carrie Petrie interrupted some of AHS play with some excellent interceptions, however, AHS continued with the goals to end this quarter with a great lead, 10-37.
The last quarter saw both teams eager to win the ball with good determination demonstrated from both sides. Play was fast with good interceptions from both teams. Yell appeared to find their feet in this last quarter and produced the goals, but they weren’t going to catch the well-deserved lead AHS had made. The game ended 20-45 to AHS. Players of the match were awarded to Carly Smith for Yell and Sadie Fox for AHS.
