Scallywags started the game off strong with 3 goals in quick succession from Anja Kurtz and Alana Smith. Kinetics Rozanne Jamieson and Shannon Stevenson tightened their defence to slow the shooters’ progress whilst centre Kristi Grant worked tirelessly to bring the ball through to their shooting circle where Maisie Ramsay began to get into her stride. Quarter ended with Scallywags leading by 2 points.

There were a few changes to the both line ups going into the second quarter. Karis Georgeson moved into Kinetics attack and was supported by some strong and accurate feeds from Kristi Grant and Lucy Thomson to pull their score up. Scallywags Kurtz and Smith continued to work well as a duo and made the Kinetics defence work for every ball.

The second half of the game saw frantic play with end to end action. Rowan Nicolson played some quick fire passes up through Scallywags midcourt and added to the increasing pace of play. Liza Henderson brought control to Kinetics game and created space for players to drive up court. Great shooting by both sides made the game good to spectate, and Kinetics worked hard to even the score, edging into the lead at 28-26.

The final quarter began with some fresh players from Scallywags’ full bench, adding to their team’s stamina. Ella Johnson also made her debut at goal shooter for Kinetics and netted some long range shots. Scallywags shooter Erin Leask quickly racked up a number of goals in this quarter, despite determined defence from Kinetics. Kinetics held their lead for a few minutes but were overtaken by Scallywags who showed determination and converted a number of interceptions into goals. The game was hard fought from both teams and ended with a 40 – 35 win for Scallywags. Players of the match were Erin Leask for Scallywags and Liza Henderson for Kinetics.
