Kiwis won the first centre pass but Whalsay were quick of the mark with an intercept flowing straight up to young shooters Ellie Sandison and Krissie Robertson getting the first 2 goals. Kiwis solid defence of Maisie Unsworth, Kim Johnson and Kylie Wood soon applied great pressure getting turnover straight up to Kiwis shooters. Kiwis confidence showed throughout this quarter ending it 13-2 to Kiwis.

Kiwis continued to develop on their lead with swift play from Sanna Onhauz WA, Libby Fox GA and Rhianne Colvin GS in the attacking end of the court. Whalsay defenders Natalie Constable and Lynsey Irvine applied good pressure and getting many rebounds to any missed shots. Kiwis counter-played using a zone defence to their advantage with Emma Niven and Unsworth getting many brilliant interceptions converting straight to goal ending the quarter 22-6 to Kiwis.

The third quarter saw Whalsay displaying skilful play. Lynsey Irvine, Natalie Constable and Leanna Jamieson got some lovely interceptions and tips using strong man-to-man defence and Heather Williamson supported this turnovers well up the court. Brenda Leask came on at GD for Kiwis and worked well with Johnson at GK and saw Kiwis stealing Whalsay’s centre passes helping Kiwis to move ahead into the final quarter 35-12 ahead.

Changes were made to both teams to try unsettle each-others play. Kiwis Emma Niven started the 4th quarter getting 2 interceptions going straight to goal supported well by Kylie Wood. Whalsay attacked fluently getting the ball up the court. Both teams getting strong turnovers in the defensive thirds and all players made definite impact to the play. Whalsay became more patient in their attack which worked to their advantage but Kiwis took the win 44-16. Players of the match were Emma Niven for Kiwis and Lynsey Irvine for Whalsay.
