Kiwis 45 V 24 AHS

Kiwis 45 V 24 AHS

Kiwis were quick to take the lead with accurate shooting from Dawn Manson and Louise Jamieson. AHS was working hard to gain possession of the ball and were not giving Kiwis much space with good defending throughout the court. Effective play from Emma Niven and Sanna Onhauz, who were linking well to carry the ball up the court, made it easy for shooters Jamieson and Manson to receive the ball and score goals. AHS defence duo Eve Fraser and Jess Fraser never gave up and were working hard to try and intercept but Kiwis did not seem rattled. By the end of the first quarter, AHS defence stepped up and Kiwis were having to work much harder to keep the ball. The first quarter ended 12-6 to Kiwis.

Quarter 2 saw both teams make changes to their teams, AHS saw Sadie Fox come on as GS, and Kiwis brought on Maisie Unsworth to GD and Rhianne Colvin to GA. Both teams were quick to settle into this new set u but again Kiwis proved to be the strongest team. AHS was struggling with the pressure from Kiwis defence Unsworth and Natasha Tulloch, making it hard to convert their shots to goals. Kiwis Kylie Wood and Holly King were making quick decisions on the court which Colvin was able to read and accurately feed the ball into the shooting circle to Manson. Mowat was starting to become a threat to Kiwis with her remarkable defending, intercepting the ball and feeding it down the court to shooters Niamh Paton and Fox, who were both proving to have accurate shots. The second quarter ended 24-13 to Kiwis.

Going into the 2nd half both teams were starting to look tired, with further changes being made. Both teams worked hard throughout the quarter, Kiwis were showing their experience and continued to keep the lead. The third quarter ended 32-19 to Kiwis. The final quarter started with Libby Fox and Niven using their pace to carry the ball up the court, although AHS was not giving up and were not making this easy for Kiwis. AHS shooting duo Fox and Caitlin Spence were moving well in the shooting circle receiving easy passes in from their mid-court players. AHS converted several consecutive goals, but Kiwis defender Kim Johnson soon put a stop to this. Both teams played right until the final whistle with no one giving up. The play was impressive from both sides with the final score 45-24 to Kiwis, meaning AHS were over half points. Players of the match were Annie Mowat for AHS and Emma Niven for Kiwis.
