Loungers 33 V 31 Whalsay

The 1st quarter started with a Loungers centre pass, with smooth passing resulting in a quick goal.  Play was calm from both sides.  Good interceptions from the Whalsay defence disrupted the Loungers flow.  Play was even, but with great passing into the circle by Loungers Vicki Smith, Loungers was able to take the lead at the end of the quarter 9-5.

The 2nd quarter started strong for Whalsay, with a great long range shot from Ellie Sandison followed by the Loungers centre pass being stolen by Whalsay’s Annie Mouat to produce another goal.  Whalsay continued to dominate in the Loungers circle with the defence picking up any rebounds.  With the score now level at 9-9, the pressure was on Loungers.  Great shooting from Loungers Kaitlin Leslie settled their play.  Score went goal for goal, but with more impressive shooting from Ellie Sandison, Whalsay took the 2nd quarter 17-15.

Whalsay were quick to score in the 3rd quarter. Strong feeds into the circle challenged the Loungers defence.  All Whalsay players tight on their opposition, continuing to make it difficult for the Loungers to find space.  However, Loungers found their confidence and started to close the gap.  The quarter ended 25-23 to Whalsay.

Going into the last quarter, Loungers went out determined and fought for every ball.  After an excellent interception from Ashley Symington, Loungers were able to draw level.  This spurred the team on and they started to pull ahead.  Whalsay continued to fight for every ball with great defence going up the court.  However, Loungers were able to hold on and take the game 33-31. Player of the match went to Ellie Sandison for Whalsay and Ashley Symington for Loungers.
