McEwans 28-22 Yell

McEwans 28-22 Yell

Despite Da McEwans getting off to a quick start by scoring a few goals in succession, the first quarter was very low scoring. Both sides were unsettled all over the court, however, Cara Montgomery and Jenny Jamieson of Da McEwans linked up well in the mid-court, which helped them to have a lead of 6-3 going into the second quarter.

Both teams made one change in the second quarter, with Faye Anderson coming on for Da McEwans and Carrie Petrie for Yell. Both players made a good impact to the game, helping settle things down in the mid-court. Good pressure from Ellie Sutherland and Amber Paton in defence enabled McEwans to pull ahead slightly ending the first half 11-6. Yell started the second half of the game very well, with shooters Carly Smith and Jasmine Lawson working well together to dominate play in the circle. Lesley Strachan also made a number of key interceptions for Yell, which made it difficult for Da McEwans attack. A strong third quarter for Yell saw them pull it back to within 2 goals with the score being 18-16. With all still to play for in the final quarter, both teams came out fighting for the win. Alice Jamieson and Kerry Nicolson worked well together for Yell but there was nothing stopping McEwans shooters of Brenna Irvine and Megan Sandison who rarely missed. This helped them to pull ahead and secure the win, with the game ending 28-22. Players of the match were awarded to shooters Megan Sandison and Carly Smith. Huge thanks to Maisie Unsworth and Claire Morris for umpiring.
