McEwans 37 V 18 Dutch Courage

McEwans 37 V 18 Dutch Courage

It was a slow start from both teams as the game wasn’t flowing well. Da McEwans settled into the game quicker, however, tight defence by Chloe Howarth and Martha Smith made it difficult for McEwans to move around the circle. Despite this they finished the quarter with a narrow lead of 6-4.

In the second quarter both teams were fighting hard for possession. Despite Dutch Courage best efforts to get the ball up the court Da McEwans were strong in defence by making vital interceptions in the mid court. Good play in the Dutch Courage circle by Aaliyah Leask and Cerys Harrop meant that the score remained close, ending 11-8.

Both teams made a few substitutions and changes in the second half of the match, which allowed Da McEwans to really find their feet. Seamless mid court play meant the ball was brought to McEwans shooters Kirsty Porter & Brenna Irvine quickly, and shots at goal rarely missed. This lead to a comfortable lead with the third quarter ending 25-12.

This play continued into the final quarter. Dutch Courage kept fighting and made the McEwans work hard to maintain their lead. McEwans strong defence of Ellie Sutherland & Laura Polson meant they were getting the rebounds frequently, and the team worked well to get the ball back to the shooters. Dutch Courage persistently pushed to fight for half points, only just falling short and ending the match 37-18. Players of the match were Jenny Jamieson for Da McEwans and Carla Johnson for Dutch Courage. They both worked tirelessly throughout the whole match, with great play all over the court.
