Scallywags 28 V 22 Yell
Scallywags had first centre. However, Yell turned it over and scored first. The first quarter was fast paced as both teams took time to settle. Yell’s Jasmine Lawson (C) was soon noted to be using the space of the court well. Tight marking in the mid court from both teams was making centre passes difficult. The quarter finished 8 – 7 to Scallywags.
Scallywags had first centre pass. The second quarter was frantic with end-to-end play. Both teams were turning over centre passes and making good interceptions. Yell’s Lesley Strachan (GD) was getting every rebound, making the circle difficult for Scallywags. The quarter ended with a draw, 14 all going into the half time break.
Scallywags had first centre in the 2nd half but a great interception from Yell meant the ball was soon up to Stephanie Keith (GA), who scored. More fast and frantic play often resulted in lost balls, particularly from Scallywags. However, Scallywag’s Anja Kurtz (GA) was working hard and shooting accurately to stay in the game. The quarter finished 20 – 19 to Scallywags.
The fourth quarter saw a change in shooters from Scallywags. Erin Leask moving from GS to GA and Anne-Marie Robinson replacing Anja and playing GS. Tight defending from both teams made for quick, and sometimes scrappy, play. A great interception from Scallywag’s Ami Maddison (GD) turned over a centre pass. This set off Scallwags scoring 3 goals in a row to win the game 28 – 22. Player of the match for Scallywags was Erin Leask. Player of the match for Yell was Carly Smith.
