Ness Hotshots 27 V Unst 33

The game started with strong play from both teams. Unst’s Centre Irena Polson and GA Alana Johnson worked well together to get a slight lead against Hotshots. Hotshots Kelsea Blades, Molly Nicolson and Freya Leslie ensured that they kept in the game getting the ball up to the shooters leaving the quarter 7-10.

The second quarter saw a few changes for both teams with Linda Thomson coming on to shoot for Unst. Hotshots took on Lijana Kornejeva as WD and Kayleigh Young GK to try and strengthen their defence. Despite all efforts the lead grew and the quarter finished with a new lead to Unst of 14-22.

Hotshots knew into the third quarter they would have to try close the gap and Freya Leslie took on C against Unst’s strong Irena. Shooting from both Megan Nicolson and Rachel Young for hotshots was excellent and despite the efforts of Unst’s defence Ailidh Risk and Shona Johnson the gap closed slightly to 22-27.

With all to play for in the last quarter both teams again made some changes. The support from Hotshots Isabel Beswick was fantastic in defence working the ball in the midcourt. Unst’s Irena and Anya Risk worked well together to make it more difficult for Hotshots to close the gap. Unst’s accurate shooting from Alana Johnson proved too hard for Hotshots with the final quarter finishing 27-33 to Unst. Players of the Match were Alana Johnson for Unst and Freya Leslie for Ness Hotshots.
